Life at Canning College
The staff at Canning College are highly qualified and experienced in teaching students from many cultural backgrounds. Teachers understand the specific needs of international students and the importance of making sure students feel welcomed into the community.
Canning College accepts international students in Years 10, 11 and 12, as well as a Diploma of Commerce program which is equivalent to year-one Bachelor programs at The University of Western Australia and Curtin University.
The college also offers the Western Australia Certificate of Education (WACE), the WA Universities’ Foundation Program and a Certificate IV in University Access Program. Courses are designed to prepare students for further study at university.
Support for students
Students receive extensive academic support and opportunities for personal growth at Canning College. Learning extends beyond the classroom with activities that help students develop leadership skills and behaviours that make for an easier transition into tertiary studies. Student advisors give advice about choosing subjects, university study options and career pathways.
A school psychologist is available to support the mental health and academic success of students, and a literacy support teacher helps students with their English language skills. Students can also take advantage of exam workshops to help them prepare for exams.

Settling in
A student services team makes sure international students have the support they need to transition into living in Perth and to develop the study skills and self-management habits needed for their learning. An orientation program introduces international students to life in Western Australia, including a range of daily living skills, such as how to navigate the city using public transport. Opportunities to join cooking classes further help students develop important life skills.
