Balga Senior High School staff are dedicated to delivering a high-quality education tailored to meet the unique needs of every student. With a culturally diverse student body representing more than 40 nationalities, school staff foster an inclusive, welcoming and harmonious learning environment where all students feel valued and supported.

New state-of-the-art science facilities recently opened at the school, including a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) laboratory, 3D printer room and resource areas. A new performing arts centre has also just opened. 

Engaging learning experiences are provided at the school through a team of highly skilled staff, resources and facilities. A broad range of educational and training programs are on offer, designed to develop well-rounded individuals who are prepared for life beyond school. Students have access to multiple pathways to success, including direct university entry courses, vocational education and training (VET) programs and pathways leading to further study and employment.

Life at Balga Senior High School

Life at Balga Senior High School is vibrant and engaging, with a broad curriculum that includes ATAR, General and VET courses. With an emphasis on literacy, numeracy and technology skills, students are well prepared for future academic and career pursuits.

Multicultural diversity is embraced at the school, and staff support students from diverse linguistic backgrounds by offering English as an additional language or dialect (EALD) courses. Eligible Year 11 and 12 students can enrol in these accredited courses as part of the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) English pathway.

The Intensive English Centre (IEC) supports international students by providing students with one or two years of intensive English studies. Students attending the IEC will gain the knowledge and skills required to integrate successfully into mainstream school. Students are provided with a supportive and stimulating environment to ensure they reach their maximum potential. The intensive English curriculum is designed to meet the educational needs of all students from both limited and formal education backgrounds.

Support for students

Balga Senior High School staff are dedicated to supporting students' social, emotional and educational wellbeing. The Student Services team includes a school psychologist, nurse, chaplain and year coordinators who provide counselling, health advice and mentoring. The pastoral care program promotes positive social and emotional learning, creating a nurturing environment for international students.

Settling in

International students are warmly welcomed to Balga Senior High School. The IEC provides international students with the knowledge and skills required to integrate successfully into mainstream high school. Students are encouraged to participate in sports and compete against local schools in a variety of disciplines, including Australian football, cricket, rugby league, soccer, hockey, netball, volleyball and basketball.

Students will enjoy the school grounds with mature trees and gardens that offer outdoor eating areas and shaded meeting spaces.

  • Balga Senior High School is situated 18 kilometres north of Perth city centre and just 12 kilometres from Trigg Beach. The area features a sports stadium, a recreation centre and a large shopping centre nearby. The suburb of Balga is well connected by public transport, providing easy access to the city and surrounding areas.
