Languages programs

Children with an aptitude for learning new languages have the opportunity to develop their language skills to an advanced level, develop an appreciation and understanding of culture and enjoy a dynamic and challenging learning environment.

Specialised teachers, supported by native speaking assistants and tutors, develop children’s comprehension, spoken interaction and writing skills, extending their knowledge and use of cultural norms and practices. There are also opportunities for children to participate in overseas tours and exchange programs.

Languages available in 2019 are:

  • Chinese (Mandarin)
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Japanese.

Children can continue to study a language they started in primary school or choose a new language in Year 7.

Selection is based firstly on the results of the Academic Selective Entrance Test (ASET). Children may then qualify for the interview stage where they are required to submit school reports.

As the program varies from school to school, please visit the school’s website or contact the school for more details and to find out which languages are offered at each school.
