Gifted and Talented scholarships

Children enrolled in a Gifted and Talented Secondary Selective Entrance Academic Program in Years 7, 8, 9 or 10 in 2021 are eligible to apply for the Olive A Lewis Scholarship.

The Olive A Lewis Scholarship is provided for students whose further education may be restricted due to financial need. Scholarships are means-assessed and awarded to those families deemed the most significant in terms of financial disadvantage. Scholarships range between $500 and $1 000 per year and, providing your child remains in the program, you can apply in consecutive years.

Please send the completed application form with supporting documentation by either Australia Post (Registered Post recommended) or hand-delivery to:

The Project Officer
Gifted and Talented Selection Unit
Department of Education
151 Royal Street
EAST PERTH WA 6004

Applications close 3.00pm, Friday 18 December 2020.

Late, faxed or emailed applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Families are required to supply detailed financial information which will be used by the Selection Committee to determine those applicants most in need of financial assistance. Your child’s Semester 1, 2020 school report is required to ensure applicants have a record of regular attendance and dedication to their schooling. Incomplete applications or those failing to provide all required supporting documentation will risk being removed from consideration. The Department of Education takes no responsibility for following up on incorrect or missing information relating to individual applications.

Applications are considered within the context of all information provided, including debts, assets, number of dependent children, education travel expenses and other significant extenuating circumstances. Families who have little or no difficulty providing for their child’s education expenses are not encouraged to apply.

All scholarship decisions are final and are made at the discretion of the Olive A Lewis Selection Committee based on confidential information supplied by each applicant. You cannot appeal the decision.

The amount of funding each year varies according to the annual performance of the trust fund managed by Perpetual Trustees based in Sydney.

Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified by early February 2021. Scholarship payments will be made to families in March 2021. Payments are made by cheque direct to families.
