Leonie is foundation principal of Treendale Primary School which opened in 2014. Through her determined and focused leadership, the school has a strong sense of community, high expectations for all, a rich culture of collaboration and innovative learning technologies. Her leadership inspires teaching staff to adopt creative approaches to technology for improving students’ literacy and numeracy skills.

Between 2009 and 2013, Leonie was principal of Kalgoorlie Primary School where she implemented a culture of evidence-based, data-driven planning to improve student performance. Her deep commitment to innovation and flexibility reflected local needs, complexity and context. Leonie was WA Primary Principal of the Year in 2012.

Leonie’s change project focused on early childhood, particularly pre-kindergarten programs in primary schools. To provide clarity for school leaders on the provision of these programs, Leonie explored what schools are able to do within the parameters of the School Education Act 1999.
