“Leadership is intentional and everything we do matters. Our job is to lead people to make a difference for students.”

Saeed Amin

Principal, Broome Senior High School

As principal of Broome Senior High School since 2011, Saeed had led a culture of excellence and empowerment across the school community. Over this time, there has been consistent improvement in student outcomes. The school was the 2012 WA Secondary School of the Year.

Before Broome, Saeed oversaw the development of the new Carnarvon Community College, was asked to fill in as principal of Kununurra District High School for a brief period of time and was also a principal consultant in the Midwest. Between 2004 and 2009 he was principal of Cocos (Keeling) Islands District High School where he established strong community relationships and contributed to improved teaching and learning.

Saeed’s change project focused on sustainable leadership in rural and remote schools. With the number of high quality applicants for positions in these schools extremely limited, he explored the options of building in-house sustainable aspirant and leadership programs to ensure a pool of suitable applicants. Qualitative and quantitative data from the Kimberley as well as published research formed the basis of his paper in examining the feasibility of developing such a program.
