Ongoing investment in schools continues to be a priority with many significant capital works projects either in progress or planned for the future.
An investment of $55 million will see construction start this year on three new primary schools in rapidly growing suburbs of Baldivis, Banksia Grove and Caversham. Opening in 2019 for students In Kindergarten to Pre-primary these schools with expand to cater for students in Kindergarten to Year 6 from 2020.
Three new primary schools opened for start of 2018 – two in the growing southern corridor of Perth in Wandi and Wellard, and one in Margaret River. An additional four primary schools also opened with Kindergarten and Pre-primary students, and expanding to take Year 6 students in 2019.
A new primary school will be built in Burns Beach during 2020-21. It will cater for the growing population in the area.
We are also boosting science in primary schools with a $17 million investment. This includes $12 million for the conversion of existing classrooms to science laboratories in up to 200 primary schools and $5 million in grants for schools to buy resources to equip them.
Seven new secondary schools will be built, two opening in 2018, two in 2019 and three in 2020. These, like all our secondary schools, are equipped with new technology to enhance learning; and specialist facilities - from science laboratories to dance studios and language centres – to provide vital learning opportunities for students.
